The Story
Formed in 2002 in Lisbon , Cinemuerte emerged as a fresh force in alternative rock, blending dark cinematic moods with electronic and rock elements. Their name captures the band’s fascination with emotional contrasts, visual storytelling, and atmospheric intensity.
Their early years saw them contribute to international tribute albums for The Cure (“Close to Me”) and The Misfits (“Where Eagles Dare”), revealing their broad influences and gothic-tinged sensibility.
In 2006, Cinemuerte released their debut album Born from Ashes, produced by Armando Teixeira (Da Weasel, Balla). The record introduced audiences to the band’s signature sound — a mix of dark rock, electronic textures, and cinematic emotion. Following the release, they performed alongside HIM and My Chemical Romance, and played major Portuguese festivals such as Super Bock Super Rock and Vilar de Mouros.
Their second album, Aurora Core (2008), pushed their sound further into experimental and emotional territory, featuring guest appearances from Ricardo Amorim (Moonspell) and mixing by renowned producer Waldemar Sorychta (Lacuna Coil, Tiamat).
With Wild Grown (2011), released via Sony Music Entertainment, Cinemuerte reached international audiences. The album’s refined production and melodic sensibility earned them airplay and recognition across Europe.
After exploring more electronic and introspective directions on the EP DHIST (2014), they returned in 2019 with O Refúgio, a deeply personal and independent release under their own label Core Artists. The record delves into identity, loss, and rebirth — themes that define much of Cinemuerte’s lyrical and visual world. Singles like Me, Myself and I and Until We Say Goodbye demonstrated the band’s ongoing evolution and emotional depth.
Now entering a new creative phase, Cinemuerte are preparing their fifth studio album, marking over two decades of dedication to atmospheric and emotionally resonant music.
Cinemuerte’s sound blends alternative rock with electronic and darkwave influences. Their music as a distinctly personal identity through Sophia’s haunting vocals and João & Fred’s textured production and melodic content.
Lyrically, the band explores identity, transformation, and the fragile balance between darkness and light, often framed in cinematic or surreal imagery.
